Oh, and btw, I call it an asteroid, but really it’s an NEO, or near-Earth object.

It’s dimensions are not all that huge, only being about 30 mtrs in diameter.

Not life on Earth ending size.

Bit would make a great 4th of July event!

Since I am tired and cannot think straight - what differentiates an asteroid from a NEO or for that matter a flying rock? Is it the size or the distance?

The government assures us it is safe. It is only going to get within 11,000 miles (with a margin of error on that of about 9 MILLION miles.) So they know exactly where it is going, to within 9 MILLION miles, and it is going to miss Earth by exactly 11 thousand miles.
