Back in the 60s you could tell what kind of engine a car had from the outside.

If it had a 283 it would simply have a (V). A 327 would have the v with racing flags. A 396 would have the same with the (396) numbers above the V. Same for a 427. If it was a six cylinder it would be plain. It seems like I remember a wide V symbol with a gold background on the grill on some Chevys. I think it was associated with the 327.

Ford had a similar set.

In 59 the Chveys with the 283 had a Vee emblem on the grille. My dad’s Impala had a 348, so it had the Vee emblem with the crossed racing flags. 1960 and 61 had similar emblems, also on the trunk lid, the engine emblems were placed on the front fenders from 62-70
