Fox News, CNN Blocked on DirecTV for Second Day
Multichannel News ^ | November 4, 2016

Posted on 11/04/2016 10:12:50 AM PDT by NYer

With the presidential election less than one week away, conspiracy theorists had a field day with a two-day-and-counting blackout of Fox News Channel and CNN on DirecTV, lighting up social media with claims of a liberal bias to keep supporters of Republican candidate Donald Trump in the dark.

DirecTV subscribers haven’t been able to watch FNC or its liberal counterpart CNN for about two days, as intermittent outages have blocked the channel. DirecTV customers tuning in the channels have been greeted with a screen stating the satellite service was “experiencing temporary technical difficulties. Please stand by. We apologize of the inconvenience.”

Those that tuned into CNN were notified the channel was unavailable, according to a report in the Washington Times.

Bewildered viewers voiced some of their opinions on social media and DTVUSAforum.com, with some claiming a conspiracy by liberal DirecTV employees to block FNC. No word on whether they felt more conservative DirecTV employees had a hand in blocking CNN.

In a statement, DirecTV parent AT&T said it is having technical difficulties involving eight HD channels and offered impacted customers a work-around to watch the networks.

“We’re experiencing technical difficulties impacting 8 HD channels, including CNN HD and FOX News HD, for our satellite customers,” AT&T said in a statement. “These and most of the other channels are available in SD and via our streaming apps. Customers can learn how to unhide SD channels at http://soc.att.com/2f1HYN5. We apologize for the inconvenience. We’re working to address the issues and will update accordingly.”

We have two receivers, one works, the other we tried a reset and lost all channels, it is stuck in ‘receiving guide info’ mode. Don’t try a reset yet I guess.

Apparently there is a ‘show all channels on guide’ work around, haven’t tried it on locked up receiver.

Having the same problem with my DirectTV too. Just get into your settings and switch to SD only and you can watch those channels. I also have a few movie channels out.

Press MENU on your remote,on the left of the screen scroll down to Settings and Help, then right arrow to settings, press select,on the left scroll down to display, then preferences, press select,in the middle of your screen go to Guide Channels and select Hide HD channels. Then okay. Sounds like a PITA but it's easy enough even I can do it!

I watched Hannity on DirecTV last night, and checking just now shows the Fox HD channel not working but the standard def Fox News channel is working.

Frankly i don’t put much of an ear to what the MSM has been trying to feed me. I can get better more accurate news from alternative media sites.

And yes you can still get FOX, CNN if you go to the standard channel.

Alex Jones has been on fire the last couple of days, and he is just warming up it appears.

NYer :" Rush Limbaugh has been talking about it on his program.
Personally, I believe this is either a hack or outright censorship."

Coincidently, the areas of the outage
just happen to be in two 'hotly contested' States (North Carolina & Florida).
Coincidence , ..I think not !
If i had the ability to hack (which I don't) I would look for instructions from the owner to the network distribution center.
Most people don't know how to switch from HDMI to standard reception
as most connections were made by a qualified technician.

I used to watch CNN, because it was the only cable news network at the time. When Fox News began airing on my cable network, they were on all day, every day. Since Bambi was elected in 2008, my Fox News viewing was reduced to practically nothing. Now, it’s been several years since I last watched anything on Fox News, and I don’t watch any tv news ever.
