Ok so I dont own freerepublic only Jim does. But we support it. Can there be an official report why on one of the most important days of crossing the finish line FR was down? Can that be explained please? Maybe we need to hold a special fundraiser to have a alternative data site and professional server managers that can handle contingency issues? This is by no means a criticism of Jim. But it was like being locked out of our own celebration at the club we belong.

Having read all posts through 181, I did not find an answer to the BIG question ...... WHAT HAPPENED?????

I saw a lot of “I think”, “MIGHT have been...”, “server down hard” (sounds sexual), “overloaded ?????”, “Crashed????”.

For this to happen on maybe the biggest event day in our history, certainly one of the biggest, was just devastating.

I mean couldn’t someone just push the “reset button”?

WHY DID IT HAPPEN? WHY DID IT TAKE SO LONG TO FIX?

WE WANT TO KNOW!!!!!!!

If it’s neglect, carelessness, or some other disgraceful, unforgivable, or deceitful act on the owners......./s

Then, LIE TO US! Just tell us SOMETHING!

I could just cry for you. It was a day you so looked forward to, and instead was most tragic. I will pray for you and know by your posts that you have strong faith. I have walked through with not one, but with three very close friends losing their children. It is a time when words fail. I will remember you and check on you in the days and months to come.

To understand why JR might be strenuously opposed to the second option, you must understand the history: The reason this very forum even EXISTS is that AOL shut down JR’s Whitewater discussion group in 1997 or so. I’m sure he’s not interested in being under anyone else’s thumb again.

Well said, Laz. I don't understand the technical issues, but I feel confident that JimRob and John do everything possible to keep FR up and running without putting us under the thumb of other organizations. I did manage to find the FR page on Facebook, and it was good to be among my fellow FReepers during the inauguration weekend.

I did not get to see any of President Trump only a few brief moments of him taking his Oath Of Office because my oldest daughter was killed that very morning, so feel lucky that you just have to deal with a ‘down site’ instead of working to plan a funeral for your child!!!

I agree. The OP was politely asking a valid question we deserve an honest answer to. Why is it we can freely question everything the left says or does but can't question our own without being vilified. I don't care for the double standard from our own people at all. I'm actually disappointed and expect better behavior.

Dear friends, I’m praying we get our db server up and running soon. John has a couple hurdles to get over and then I think it’ll come together relatively quickly. But we only have one tech guy and he’s under a lot of pressure. I think he can use our prayers and moral support. And after he gets it patched up and running again, he gets to start his next project which will be a much needed systems upgrade. Sorry about the downtime. Prayers up. And prayers up for our new president and our nation. God bless.

I’ve had machines like that, and they are nerve wracking.

I was left out in the dark with no explanation other than the site was down.
I don't do FAKEBOOK, nor do I like the CEO, nor his flaming Progressive/Lib Presidential aspirations
nor do I want FAKEBOOK to make money off me, sell my identity, nor sell my thoughts and beliefs to a third party, who is as yet unknown.
My only contact had been : " Isitdown.com"
I will bypass the social media circus since I value FreeRepublic, alone, to remain true to it's principles.
