I think that’s what my husband uses. He was tired of paying the ridiculous prices.
Two blades, you mean as in one on each side of the razor? :=)
Full Beard ..... hedge trimmers from Wahl and Grampa’s old straight razor for fine tuning ....
I’ve gone to a Merkur Merkur 34C safety razor like my grandfather used. I probably will only use 10-15 dollars in blades per year. Shaves just fine. One blade. A lot of people are going back to these.
[slashing prices and putting a new focus on its cheaper products.]
You mean like their shi**y disposables that do nothing but hack up my face??
No thanks...
this is capitalism at work. good for Gilette’s competitors
I use a chrome longhandled Merkur razor and buy the Feather blades in packs of 100 on Amazon. A year’s worth of blades for the cost of a couple Gillette three packs.
Harry’s Razors and Dollar Shave Club are really taking a bite out of the big name players like Gillette. Good! I’ve been using a straight razor for years now after getting tired of paying $30-$40 for a half dozen or so of these 3 or 4 blades and then Fusion Power type gimmick razors. I get a better shave now and what I spent in a month now lasts me a year or two. I think more and more people are finally seeing the light, and now Gillette is worried their cash cow is going bye bye.
One more thing, hair conditioner and shaving cream are chemically very similar. Most days I just use conditioner I get at tj maxx.
Back around 1990 a Roses store was going out of business and had reduced prices weekly. When it reached 70% off I went in the store and they had practically nothing worth buying.
I did happen to notice they had Gillette Sensor razors with I think 5 blades. They also had a coupon on them which made them free. I bought 3 sets then used the coupons over and over again until I had bought them all.
I have not bought a razor blade since and still have a bunch.
A few months ago I was in Wal-Mart and noticed they had Gillette Fusion 3 at $11 for a pack of 15 blades marked down. That did not seem all that cheap until I noticed the original price was around $35.
I had maybe two dozen Sensor handles I thought the blades would fit so I got a pack.
They did not fit and I had to go back and buy a razor along with a couple of blades.
I am now set with Gillette Fusion and Sensor razors for the rest of my life.
Thank you, Dollar Shave Club, for being the catalyst of Gillette’s problems.
The Harry’s and Dollar Shave Club have taken their toll.
This is business 101. If your margins are TOO high you make it too easy for a competitor to come in and beat you while still making a good margin for himself. Then you lose sales you will never get back.
Had the big blade companies like Gillette kept their prices reasonable the competitors like Harry’s would have never gotten a foot-hold.
Couldn’t happen to a better company.
IMO, this company exploited the market and for decades was a virtual monopoly. Pigs get fat and hogs get slaughtered. Gillette is now getting slaughtered.
I quite using them after they started charging $5 per blade, or 15 to $25 for a pack of blades. Ridiculous.
Yeah, it’s a free market, but finally, after decades, the free market is “correcting” Gillette.
Harry’s razors has cut into their market. Too bad for greedy Gillette who bled the market for all its worth. Must be due to a dull set of Proctor and Gamble executive blades.
After I received them, I tried to shave with them and they were worse than shaving with a butter knife.
I contacted the seller about them and he said send them back and he would issue a refund.
Well, I did just that, using USPS priority mail without insurance or notification of delivery. The dude claimed he never received them and refused to issue a refund. Following that, I left a negative review of him on Ebay and he followed up with a response calling me a liar and that no one should ever deal business with me..........
Definitely a learning experience
Gillette’s business model was brilliant. Practically give the razors away and make your money on selling the blades. (I think printer companies are using the same idea). After using disposables for several years, I found my old Trac II. Bought some blades on Amazon for a reasonable price and have been happy with the results.
Grow a beard.
I stopped “upgrading” when they got to the Actra two-blade system. I still have the same handle from last century, and I can get razors in bulk from Amazon.
