Seeing the Eclipse in Missouri?

Posted on 08/14/2017 11:22:55 AM PDT by MNDude

I'm planning to drive to Missouri this weekend to see the Eclipse. I've heard there will be a million visitors to that state, so there'll might be a lot of congestion.

Anyone familiar with Missouri and the upcoming eclipse know of a city along the path (rather than the major attractions) where this can be seen?

Is that where the trout fishing is?

Freeper Charles Henrickson is a pastor at a church located in Bonne Terre, MO. Bonne Terre is almost in the center of the path of totality. In fact if you go just about 5 miles north of Bonne Terre you will in the area of greatest lenghth of totality, 2 minutes 40 seconds.

This town can barely handle the traffic that a Mizzou home football game brings.

And that traffic has been less since the blm fiasco.

The park has a trout hatchery. The kids just love going there and seeing all the different size fish. In the spring and beginning waters to the stream are huge trout the kids can feed. They just have a blast when they go there.

They release adult trout into the stream there and yes it is great rainbow trout fishing.

There are other parks in Missouri also that have trout fishing, but this is my favorite.

This park is ran by the James Foundation and is not a state park.

I assume MNDude means Minnesota? If so, I think ST Joseph is the easiest place to go, considering interstate routes. They are planning a big event at the airport, but will charge for parking. I live an hour away, and posts like yours are making me wonder if it might take 4 hours to get there on the big day.

Used to go there a lot. Haven’t been there in thirty years though. It is beautiful. The spring is pretty unique.

Wow! I just realized that the NAACP has issued a travel advisory for the entire state of Missouri. So I guess those of you out of state need to plan to go somewhere else. Sorry.

Agree with post #12. From Minnesota, it might be easier just to pick a spot in Nebraska.

If you miss this one, don't worry, another one is coming right through Missouri in April 2024. "X" marks the spot:

Don’t have my glasses yet though. My neighbor offered a welding helmet.

You don't need protection during totality (corona)

If you don’t have a hotel already it’s probably waaaay too late. Your best bet probably would be to drive to very desolate stretch of road and pull off. Better yet try to find a park in a tiny town somewhere.

Have heard reports that St. Jo is expecting more than 100,000 eclipse watchers

I have room in Rollo and will be driving to Owensville (population 2650) for the big event. Hope to avoid crowds with this strategy.

Unfortunately, it depends on what side of the Metro KC area you’ll be in...

Independence & Blue Springs will have totality for about a minute. In Overland Park, where I work, we’ll only be at about 97% of total. I’m hoping to be able to drive over to check it out, depending on how busy we are on Monday. Otherwise, we’ll just go outside to check it out.

I live three miles NW of Hallsville. All I need to do is step out of the office door. I had no idea it was such a big deal until last week when my law partner told me that Columbia was going to be completely full of people. Anyhow, it will be pretty cool to see!
