SUICIDE IS NEVER THE ANSWER.

Every suicide is a tragic loss to our nation and those impacted. The family and friends left behind who must deal with the aftermath of the event and put those events in perspective, may in some cases never know why the service member or Veteran took their life. Suicide is NEVER the answer. Please reach out and ask for help. We need you.

I would love to be a mentor/comforter for someone that has come back from battle and is struggling. Anyone know of any programs I could plug myself into to help?

Awful web to be tangled in. A great mentor of mine once told me suicide is a permanent solution to an often temporary problem. He was so right.

Sadly, a permanent solution to a temporary problem.

The problem is it doesn’t seem temporary to the person involved. It is simply the result of more pain than the person can cope with...

Don’t know.

I’m watching a family get torn apart emotionally and financially by advanced Alzheimer’s and severe crippling pain. The ill person is miserable, hates existence, and is not herself. Her loving husband will probably have to lose his house and life savings because of the financial strain.

I’ve always been against suicide, but I’m going to swallow a bullet if I’m headed in that direction.

It is simply the result of more pain than the person can cope with...

I recently saw a web page which contained the stories of Golden Gate bridge jump survivors. (Yes, there are a *very* few.) The one that struck me was the fellow who, just as he cleared the bottom of the bridge, found himself thnking, "All the problems that I have are actually pretty solvable, except for this latest one: I just jumped off the Golden Gate Bridge!"

No telling if that thought usually occurs to any other jumpers, since most of them are not available to comment.

Call that help line and tell them you want to help. They’ll be happy to hear from you.

Folks who are contemplating suicide need to know there are other options and plenty of help from people with wide open arms. Just so hard to see this when the dark side sets in.

I wonder how many people set limits in their own minds?

When I was still a teenager I did that. A vowed to myself that I would never get divorced. I said to myself that the marriage vow is forever so once the words are said that is final. If I could no longer get along with my wife we would agree to move across the country from each other but divorce is never an option. We have been married for 43 years and now, neither of us have anyone left to run home to.

I said the same thing to myself about suicide. I know to this moment that I could never do that for any reason. It does not even make sense. The worst pain or agony in life is just one more obstacle to overcome. Although Jesus is always there, I will not ask for anything out of the ordinary because we all have the exact same breath of life to savor and enjoy for better or for worse.

Overgeneralization.

Yes, don’t commit suicide if there is hope and a possible solution.

Suicide is permanent and some problems are also permanent.

A person has the right to take their own life.

Platitudes often sound both stupid and insincere even when they are well meaning.

If you spew those sorts of things at people facing a permanent hurt you exacerbate the likelihood of suicide rather than alleviate the persons hurt. Nor do you endear yourself to other people who are trying to help and who are putting some actual effort into doing so.

My son-in-law’s family suffered two suicides of family members. Their pain is immense and will be with them the rest of their lives. They are in our prayers daily.

My father, a Marine tunnel rat in the Vietnam War who i revere so much talked to me about this; ONCE.

“You go to a foreign sh!thole, fight for your life and your friends. You see horrible things that scar you. You make it home in one piece.”

“I’ll never understand how you could kill yourself after making out alive out of that hell.”

What do you say to that?

If you are anywhere near one of these clinics, they are doing an excellent job of helping veterans. My oldest daughter works for them and they are really reaching the veterans that need help. It is funded by a foundation, and is low or no cost to veterans- regardless of their discharge status. I cannot say enough good things about them.

If you are not near one of their clinics, it might be worth a call to them anyway, they might know how you can help in your area.

Why would you assume I'd do that? Regardless, I stand by my comment.
