Ok, what's everyone making today? Besides Turkey, I'm making:
Spiral Cut Smoked Ham
Sweet Potato Casserole
Real Mashed Potato's
Meat Stuffing in the Turkey
Apple Pie (baked yesterday)
Pumpkin Pie (baked yesterday)
Green Beans Almondine
Crescent Rolls
Salad
Cranberry Sauce
Doing a small turkey and a tri-tip roast.
Kasespatzel!!! with extra caramelized onions, Limburger cheese and *real* imported Swiss (type) cheese.
BTW - Here is *THE* original marinade for fried turkey.
Legend is this did *not, not* originate in Louisiana.
It originated in Bayou La Batre, Alabama.
- 1 Bottle garlic juice.
- 1 Bottle onion juice.
- 3/4 tbs lemon juice.
- 4 tbs Tabasco sauce.
- 4 tbs Worcestershire sauce.
- Appx 3 tbs tony chachere seasoning (to taste).
Mix all in a pint jar. Fill to top with hot water.
Make sure all granules are dissolved.
Rest for 30 minutes.
Inject all into bird.
Set overnight (or longer).
Heat oil to 350.
Cook 5 minutes per pound.
(good Mexi cornbread)

No turkey; did pork tenderloins Hawaiian style in pineapple sauce, with mashed potatoes, turkey gravy for traditional stuffing loaf, green peas, copper pennies, deviled eggs, and rolls. Dessert will be chocolate ice cream with raspberry/strawberry sauce and strong coffee.
Pheasant
Roast duck stuffed with garlic, shallots , bay leaves and oregano, served with red potatoes and okra.
Oven turkey, smoked brisket, oyster dressing, gravy, green beans, taters/carrots/onions, cherry and chocolate pies.
Ensuing food coma ongoing...
Pizza in our wood fired oven. Sauce from our garden, tomatoes and garlic, with homemade from scratch crust. Portabella mushrooms and italian sausage with lots of mozzarella cheese.
You make your croquetas out of soap? And, Lechon is for Christmas!
Giving thanks that there was plenty of food in house already so no need to shop for anything else - so it’s been grilled cheese sandwiches by request, and then later salmon with veggies.
Oh, yes...forgot the pumpkin pie.
I haven’t had pheasant in years, I am so jealous!
My mother still cooks, but the menu is simpler and more scaled down now that we are older. She made:
Raw vegetable tray
Deviled eggs
Baked chicken breasts
Cornbread dressing
Creamed corn
Green bean casserole
Rice and gravy
Cranberry sauce
Dessert was yams and oranges baked with rum and pecans with toasted marshmallow on top.
That sounds delish! Happy Thanksgiving.
This is our second Thanksgiving with just the three of us. Their mother and I divorced and I'm rebuilding my life. I should say, the three of us are rebuilding our lives. Even though they're over 18, they're still suffering the collateral damage divorce brings.
I'm grateful for so many things. One of which is my two sons who despite all the crap their mother has pulled the last few years on them as well as me have been maturing into fine young men. My oldest is in his Junior Year in college and it's looking like he's going to be doing an internship with the FBI this summer. I'm so proud of him. My youngest started junior college this fall and is finally taking his education seriously. That's an answer to a prayer.
All I know right now is this:
We live in the best country on the planet, despite all the divisiveness that's going on right now. I have faith that God's in control and everything that's happening right now in my own life and in our country is ultimately according to plan. I don't know what that plan is, when I'll see it or when I'll see the outcome. I just know God's in control and I wouldn't have it any other way.
Thanks to everyone who posted. You're welcome at my table anytime.
Hi and Happy Thanksgiving!
I see that you made meat stuffing in the bird.
My family has made that for years, as I do now.
Forgive me for posting this recipe instead of my own, but they are largely the same.
Is your meat stuffing based on this recipe?

WE just finished dinner, and I’m having a nap, since I’ve been cooking all day!
LOL
Hope to hear from you!
Almost the same thing. I use bread cubes instead of potato’s. Beyond that, identical!
Wadya mean “today”? I started YESTERDAY! ;^)
For the first time in 15 years it’s just my wife and I this year. It’s very relaxing because usually we host. Still doing it up right though.
whole smoked spatchcocked chicken
roasted brussel sprouts
mashed potatos
gravy
stuffing
butter rolls
pumpkin pie
That sounds devine!
Getting those out of the way yesterday saved LOTS of clean-up today.
