“it’s not caused by the magma underneath the volcano”

The magma may have not caused it, but what impact will the quake have on the magma?

Good question. I just dislike such a definitive opinion from anyone, even a genuine expert. Rising magma preceding an eruption typically causes strings of earth quakes. And they can also occur independent of any changes in the magma pool. But as far as I know it’s not possible to categorically rule out either as the cause when it happens around an active volcano (Geology wasn’t my college major but it was by far my favorite subject, so I tend to pay attention).
