The horn of Africa is the best of the several suggested locations of “Ophir”, if for no other reason than 1) its proximity to the Red Sea and Israel’s port of Eilat, and 2) the linguistic proximity of “Ophir” to “Afar”, the people who still inhabit the horn region.
