“... If the US government is only looking to send a message, it would be better done by hiring a Madison Avenue ad agency and have them develop an ad campaign criticizing Bashar al-Assad and the Russians....”
What an incredibly stupid statement....

I totally disagree with his whole premise. Limited strikes have their place. The real problem with the way the war was fought in Vietnam was the irrational strategy of maintaining the status quo. We would advance and take territory only to turn right around and abandon it.

Russia isn’t going to start World War III over a missile strike by the U.S. in Syria.

Putin wants the port. He could care less about whatever rag head is in charge. He is not risking losing his port over this.

I Trust Donald Trump. He is negotiating. What he wants out of this is not yet apparent but it will be to America's benefit and he will get most or all of what he wants and part of it is probably to get out of Syria without handing the Middle East over to Putin and the mullahs. It will not take very long as such things go. When it comes to negotiating and backing opponents into untenable corners, Trump is a natural. My first reaction when something has happened that seems to be against at least my sensibilities is to say wh..!? OH NO! then as it unfolds a little while later I see what he is doing and now I do not have the same reaction. I might think hey, what is the aim here and wait for what comes later. Trump is a master prestidigitator. Watch all the fire and smoke, the silks and fluttering pigeons and you can't see what the other hand is doing. The other hand is accomplishing good work.

From the movie The Bedford Incident:
Commodore Schrepke: This is insane!
Captain Finlander: Now don’t worry, Commodore. The Bedford’ll never fire first. But if he fires one, I’ll fire one.
Ensign Ralston: [launching the rocket] Fire One!
(doesn’t matter who the president is)
