I am a retired ATC at a high level RADAR Facility and I doubt that for various reasons that get semi complicated.
Not saying that it didn’t happen, just find it highly unlikely.
All I can tell you is what the man said to us. I probably am not reporting the details correctly, and if you had been in the conversation you would have doubtless gotten a more accurate understanding than I did of what the ATCs were able to observe and how they observed it.
The one thing I am clear about is that this person who has been a personal as well as family friend of my wife’s for decades told us they “saw” a missile (my recollection of what he said, not his exact words). I presume this was on their screens; but, again, you would have a better understanding than I of how this might work.
