It should mirror the workday - 9am to 5pm, or 930am to 530pm.
I’ve always had to show up at 7:45 to be on time for my 8:00 job. Most jobs are 8 hours. 9-5 is only 7.
Many of those sleepy teens will end up in jobs that are the graveyard shift. And, horrors of horrors, jobs that cut into their weekends. Deal with it. That’s reality. Welcome to it.
Not really a typical workday, either. I never worked such a schedule in my life. None of my family or friends do/did, either, that I know about.....except for my cousin the lawyer, but we don't like to talk about her. She attended Harvard Law School, after all.
One of my nephews currently works 7am - 3:30pm, for example.
Who works from nine to five? Journalists? Slackers?
In the real world people work from eight to five. Minimum.
The public high school in my area has classes from 7:35 am until 2:09 pm. The historical reasons for the early start and dismissal times is to allow 2.5 hours a day for extra-curricular activities and/or a large block of time to work part-time, and still have a few hours for homework.
My workday is 6 am to 7 pm and often goes longer. I doubt most parents work 9-5. Should we ban 8 am college courses and a workday that starts before 9 because it is too hard on the little darlings?
The article leaves out after school activities as well. Sports for my son went til 5 or 6 and dance for my daughter til 8:30 pm. I would hate to move those activities any later.
