Interesting book; unfortunately I made the mistake of reading the rest of them.
That first book was brilliant, the Canterbury Tales as set to sci-fi. He should have stuck with more Jack Vance emulation after the first book and less sex and horror. Although the horror was done pretty good, which makes sense as it was Simmons. Of course that is from a 10+ year recollection of reading it all.
