Good post. It is a sad story. Perhaps she is such a shallow soul that she would have had a miserable life in any event, but she will never know.

Exactly.
The world is full of those people, but there are also a lot of shallow souls (like young, reckless men who are given the opportunity to survive their adolescence and young adulthood) who have had the opportunity to grow out of it.
(As an aside, that means something to me. I have never viewed myself as shallow (who ever really does, I guess) but I definitely was reckless and stupid...but then one day I realized I had reached the age of thirty and saw that I had made it there relatively intact...and I have never stopped being thankful for it. For some odd reason, I had never been able to visualize life after thirty, or to see myself as an old man, and somehow, that bugged me out...I never mentioned it to anyone, but...I sometimes wondered if that meant anything. I never thought to ask anyone else about it. Then when I turned 30 and I realized I hadn't yet gotten myself killed or maimed in some kind of accident or stupidity, I was finally able to view myself as an old guy in my sixties or more. I know that must sound odd, but I was perpetually clumsy and lacking in judgement and common sense...always getting hurt doing stupid useless things because I never thought things through.)
She didn't have that good fortune.
If she had jumped in bed with some managerial flunky at some company, she might have realized and gained some wisdom from it and learned, but when you perform sex acts on the President of The United States and it becomes public, turning you into a political football, well...it's all over for you.
