Isn’t ‘Viet Nam Era Vet’ what they say when they didn’t see combat, and often weren’t even out of the US?

I made a mistake, I watched it again and he called himself “A Vietnam time vet”. First time I ever heard any veteran use “time” in describing their service.

In may cases they did not even finish basic training, were given bad conduct discarges, discharged for the good of the service, etc. but were given Administrative Discharges retroactively by good old anti-Semitic Jimmuh Cahtuh.

Being a “Vietnam Era Vet” who honorably, actively served stateside in 1968 and 1969 I take the tone of your post as an insult to those of us who served during that period but did not get assigned to Vietnam. The term is entirely accurate and an entirely proper way to describe those of us who served during that era, often at substantial personal sacrifice, but did not serve in Vietnam.

Yes. They called us Vietnam Era Vets. During part of the war I was on Nuke Subs so not in country fighting. I don’t claim to be a Vietnam Vet, and I would never dishonor those that served in Nam by trying to glom on to their honor by using similar words. I have no sympathy for those that would. I am just an honorably discharged vet.

You are correct. I see that a lot. As one that was actually there and was around some nasty situations, I personally do not care to see folks wearing caps stating such.

On the other hand anyone that served honorably no matter where assigned deserves respect, but not as a Vietnam Vet.
