Wow. I thought this was satire. She really said this.

But it is also more word salad from the ditzy bartender:

"It is because our technological advancement as a society has outpaced our system for handling finite resources, because now we are approaching infinite resources."

"Our system for handling finite resources" is market economics.

By this: "now we are approaching infinite resources", I think she means the possibility of a near-infinite alternative to human labor, in the sense of automation.

I do not think she is dumb enough to think technology will lead to infinite raw materials. Technology is not alchemy. After all, the entire premise of her Green New Deal is we are exhausting resources and destroying the environment.

What I thinks she is saying is "our technological advancement as a society" has the potential to exceed the ability of a market economy to regulate the supply and demand, because scarcity of labor will be negatively impacted by automation.

I have to believe AOC's study of economics in college was probably heavily flavored with Marxist economics. Marx wrote a piece called "The Fragment on Machines", which many on the socialist left have embraced in light of the coming Fourth Industrial Revolution. Those on the socialist left see the idea of automation replacing human work as the compelling event which will force the adoption of worldwide communism.

"The Fragment on Machines" is a very difficult read, but the core of it is Marx argues labor rightfully owns the machines that replaced labor and their output, because labor originally built the machines. It is the mirror universe version of Francisco d'Anconia's "Money Speech" from "Atlas Shrugged", where d'Anconia claims the output of labor rightly belongs to the person who had the idea for the product, not the person who's muscles built the product.

This is a scary time. Industry will drive towards automation to gain competitive economic advantage. At the same time, the socialist left will embrace the potential anarchy of the labor market disruptions caused by automation to push Marxist solutions.

More of AOC's comments:

"But the reason we're not excited by it is because we live in a society where if you don't have a job, you are left to die."

Okay, serious question here. Who knows somebody who died from starvation and exposure due to losing their job?

I remember asking my mom and dad, both of whom were children during the Great Depression, how many people who they knew starved to death. The answer was zero.

Remember the "99ers" during the Great Recession, those who had used up all 99 weeks of extended unemployment benefits? Remember the wave of people applying for SSI disability at the end of their 99 weeks of UI?

There are plenty of chronically unemployed who have left the labor force but are on disability or other benefits, who while they may have a rough life, are not starving to death.

This is not a dumb, ignorant, or stupid comment by AOC. This is a knowing comment made for the purposes of propaganda.

Another comment by AOC:

"Capitalism is an ideology of capital — the most important thing is the concentration of capital and to seek and maximize profit."

"To me, capitalism is irredeemable."

There it is.

Market economics are not a tool to enable exchange of goods and services.

Economic liberty, the right to trade one's goods, labor, and saved wealth with others is not a fundamental human right.

Instead market economics and economic liberty are an ideology, and a bad ideology, an "irredeemable" ideology. Like Nazism and Fascism. I'm sure AOC doesn't include Marxism, Leninism, Trotskyism, Stalinism, Maoism, or Pol Potism, because those are redeemable. They weren't "real socialism", after all.

This woman is a full-blown Marxist-Leninist.
