Evidence is now clear. Obesity is a chronic hunger disorder that is almost impossible for most obese people to control. It is likely tied to the microbiome in the gut and fructose metabolism.
I am normal weight and have been for more than 10 years...but....keeping it normal requires minute by minute ( almost superhuman) conscious control. It is exhausting.
I am hopeful that effective treatment will soon be forthcoming.
The following are two talks. Sadly, those Freepers who are the cruelest in their comments towards the obese are the least likely to watch and listen.
This from the UCLA medical school on fructose metabolism: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBnniua6-oM
This is a TED talk about gut bacteria:

Also some freepers don’t understand that being overweight can be cause by health problems not just over eating. There are a vast number of Rx medications that cause weight gain or even obesity. However it’s either take those meds or die. People just assume that person is pigging out when they may be starving themselves because they are upset over what the meds are doing and still that big.
Its not a chronic hunger disorder.
Its because you have a crap diet and you train yourself to continue to eat crap food high sugar high carb which keeps you hungry and packs on the pounds.
its your stupid diet.
and if you believed government about having carbs make up most of your diet thats your problem right there. The same diet advice given to farmers to bulk up their meat animals, is the same diet advice they gave to humans to supposedly keep us slim. Nope, high carb fattens you up. And its worse the more sedentary you are, and worse the older you are, and worse if you’re female.
changing what you eat can change yoyr gut bacteria, and taking good bacreria that helps you eat healthier foods can be taken as well. spices and peppers and such can kill off bad bacteria that you dont want helping influence your cravings.
theres nothing chronic or permanent about it, you can nowadays easily change your gut bacteria, but you cant expect it to work if you dont change what you eat. otherwise its just going to eventually revert back.
Excellent on your weight loss.
Thanks for posting the TED talks.
I have enjoyed some of those over the years.
If a rebalance of gut bacteria and metabolism could help, I hope modern medicine figures out a way to get it that way and keep it that way.
Why people strut around boasting about a hand that they never dealt themselves is beyond my ken. It turns “conservatism” into little-mindedness. I’ve seen some of the fattest people with the most beautiful souls. Nobody is going to be on this earth forever, so overall life quality matters more than dogged longevity.
