KCS itself is in an awkward position vis-a-vis Mexico, but I won't cut them slack for it. The fact that we have ended up with two Canadian railroads with so much trackage and a Mexico-centric KCS speaks volumes about how much the various government entities care about sovereignty and security for anyone outside their own personal bubble. None of these mergers and purchases happened in a vacuum.
You're right about that. I live along Canadian National's trackage, which I would think would be considered the most important north-south trackage in the country. Because it goes from the Canadian border down to New Orleans and Mobile through Chicago, the most important US rail hub, I can't believe the government let them buy the pieces that make it up. The idea of a foreign county owning something so important to this country's infrastructure/transportation/business is abhorrent to me. Thank goodness it's not a nationalized company anymore; the thought of Trudeau owning it makes me sick. It's bad enough that Bill Gates owns a big chunk.
But that then leads to the issue of China controlling -- I forget which -- the Port of Los Angeles or Port of Long Beach.
Probably nothing Trump can do about CN or CP, but he needs to do something about the port. Now.
