Not sure I buy that he was lost. Vid shows a nose dive below the ceiling, leveling out with decent visibility well below the ceiling, then inexplicably climbing into the clouds (zero visibility) but before disappearing up in clouds was obviously flying towards the tall buildings. Doesn’t make sense to me.

Doubt it made sense to him either. Idiot. (Him. Not you, of course.)

FTA:The FAA spokeswoman said McCormack was not 'instrument-rated', meaning he did not have instruments on his chopper that could effectively guide him through the treacherous flying conditions.

No, he was not instrument rated, the helicopter was with a full suite of instruments. Now the crazy flying caught on video makes sense. Bet money that he did get into Instrument Meteorological Conditions (IMC) after takeoff. Not being trained, he developed vertigo which lingers even after the return to Visual Meteorological Conditions (VMC). That would explain the severe nose down attitude. Must have had it bad because he couldn't regain Situational Awareness (SA) even though he was in good enough conditions to see although below VFR minimums. Had it bad enough to go for a rooftop LZ rather than one on the ground.
