HAMDEN, CT — A Hamden man is accused of attempting to deflate a police car's tire while the officer was inside Walmart investigating a shoplifting incident. Officer Gabriel Garcia responded to Walmart at about 5 p.m. on July 6 on the report of shoplifting, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.

Smith said while Garcia was meeting with a loss prevention officer inside the store, a concerned citizen reported that a man removed a tire valve cap from the marked police vehicle. The man then attempted to remove air from the tire.

Moments later, officers located and arrested the man, identified as Ryan Kiekel, who was taken to police headquarters, according to Smith.

Kiekel, 35, of Mix Avenue in Hamden, was arrested and charged with tampering with a motor vehicle. He was detained on a $1,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on July 19.

Pledging for a fraternity maybe?

Or making sure his buddies can’t get chased after robbing the nearby liquor store.

They should have made him return the air from where he removed it. The unpolitical correct phrase is: After removing the vaulvestem cap, he began letting the air out of the tire.

What’s the big deal? It’s a tire, not a football.

Let’s not inflate this out of propulsion, or the news will just spin out of control. Apply the brakes to this story, and steer it in the proper direction, or we’ll become exhausted. Instead of tiring us, the pressure will be mounting and we will be Pumped... spare no excuse!

A lot of tire valve stem covers have a schraeder valve as part of them. Just uscrew it, turn it around and remove the core.

“I keep a schrader valve tool in my glove box. It only takes a few seconds.”

He was probably looking for Mr. Schrader to help him with the job...at least judging by his booking photo.

I cannot help but wonder, would this dimwit have went to jail if he had let air out of one of our tires?

In Calif you can steal a car that is worth $1,000 and not go to prison. The owner of course loses their ability to get to work and around and is out a lot of money getting a new car.
