‘Aspirin Is Not As Helpful As We Thought’(TR)

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Millions should stop taking aspirin for heart health. A new study says for healthy people, aspirin should not be taken to prevent heart attacks or strokes. For years, many have been told aspirin is heart healthy, but this research says it may be harmful for some people.

It’s now only recommended for certain patients and always only under the direction of a doctor.

Seventy-year-old Margaret Ragucci suffered a stroke a few weeks ago.

“I’m sitting there watching television, go to get up and my leg wouldn’t work,” she said. “I was in the three-hour window for somebody having a stroke. They were able to administer the medication and I walked out of there.”

Nearly 2 years ago my husband was in a near fatal motorcycle accident while on his way home from work when someone traveling in the opposite direction came into his lane and hit him. He had multiple surgeries to put his body back together and a few days later suffered a stroke.

His neurologist has had him on 81 mg of aspirin every evening and has told him its for life. I can’t see that changing.

Its been a tough recovery, especially with his traumatic brain injury.

“The old doctors will eventually die off and the ones who accept the results of research will take over.”

The problem is that much of the research is shoddy and thus changes from year to year. FWIW, I read that those who have had heart problems are still helped by aspirin, but ON AVERAGE, those who haven’t had any heart problems don’t need it.

Aspirin taken daily in this preventive way killed my cousin. He was only about 50.

He fell and hit his head, and aspirin made his brain bleed not stop. They. Have an antidote to aspirin but it was unsuccessful. The bleed was inoperable but they tried surgery anyway, 5x in 2 days, to save his life. It didn’t work.

It is very easy to fall or get hit in the head. Especially for the elderly. It’s too much of a risk.

Guns? What are you talking about, Mr. Clemenza? I lost all of my guns in a boating accident years ago.

“with your stent you are exactly the kind of person who would need that asa each day.”

Yes, however, two decades ago at a non medical social event/fund raiser, I shared a table with a Chief of Cardiology and a Chief of neurology.

I had brought a couple of bottles of very good Cab to the function. Eventually, after sharing one bottle, the discussion got around to taking a baby aspirin daily.

The chief of Cardiology admitted to taking one a day and rxing it for his patients. So did the neurologist.

Then, after the second bottle of premium cab was opened, I asked when they took their aspirin.

The Cardiologist took his at night before bed, and the neurologist took his in the morning.

Before we finished the second bottle of Cab, they both admitted to taking their aspirin twice a day, in the morning and before bed.

So, I followed the advice of both, I took a baby aspirin in the morning and one at bedtime for two decades. I had zero GI bleeds, Heart attacks and strokes.

Post Stent: I am on two blood thinners and one aspirin a day. Now, I take one baby aspirin before bed.

I’ve heard (from people in pharmaceuticals) that given the FDA approval process today, aspirin wouldn’t get approved for medical use.

Aspirin is a natural substance that needs no approval.

Only deadly poisons get approvals.

> they will have to get rid of the expensive elderly <

Sarah Palin was right. The Democrats want death panels. Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel - an Obamacare advisor and Rahm’s brother - said that anyone over 75 should be denied medical care.

Funny how the MSM never made any fuss over that.

To be specific...

The Japanese Primary Prevention Project proved and published (online November 17, 2014) that "there is no cardiovascular or stroke benefit from a daily dose of aspirin."

This study included the low-dose aspirin designed specifically for heart patients.

The FDA concluded over 5 years ago, that "after a review of the all the literature, the evidence does not support the use of aspirin."

One may say, OK, but hey, aspirin is cheap! Why not take it just in case??

Here's why:

Aspirin can cause hemorrhage, bleeding in the gut, macular degeneration, hearing loss, tinnitus, ulcer, brain bleed, stroke, etc.

5 years after the FDA concluded there is not benefit from aspirin, the American Academy of Cardiology and the American Heart Association issued new heart guidelines.

They hedge their bets by saying...

And...

"Aspirin should be used infrequently in the routine primary prevention of ASCVD (atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease risk) because of lack of net benefit."

So that is a summary of what I know.

The FDA, the Japanese research, the American Academy of Cardiology, and the American Heart Association have all walked back claims of benefit from aspirin.

Good luck to all.

I decided to take pycnogenol instead, which keeps platelets slippery and tumeric to reduce inflammation. Neither of which has a downside, like brain bleeding or but bleeding or blindness.

To each their own.
