Thank you for your service, bubblehead. I could never. Ever. Live on a submarine.

As do we all, Kit. Thanks for your service, also.

Didn’t have the stones to be infantry (’Nam) and didn’t like big, tall waves (the water type - the Navy-type were fine).

A sub seemed to be a good safe-space.

” I could never. Ever. Live on a submarine.”

It wasn’t all that bad. Kinda like being grounded in your house for 60-90 days with all the shades pulled closed. And just as you get to sleep, your mom comes in banging 2 pots together shouting “MAN BATTLE STATIONS MISSILE FOR A WSRT BLAH BLAH BLAH…” , or hitting grandpa’s ’29 roadster horn and shouting “FLOODING IN THE ENGINE ROOM.”

Every once in a while you get to go look out a little hole in the curtains at the sky for about 3 minutes – the same section of the sky, time after time, after time….

About every 3 weeks, Mom would slip a note under your door that said something like “Dad and I are doing great. Your sister got braces. We sold your car and deposited the $200 in your bank account. Love, Mom.”

Then, at the end, you would get to go out on the porch, at night, and feel the cool breeze on your face, and you just knew you were going to get laid in a couple days.
