The oldest profession is farming. Husbands and wives working togeather to support and improve their family.
The cultivation of plants came later than hunting and gathering. The people of Jericho were the first to have been known to live from the cultivation of crops (perhaps 8,000 years ago).
In America, sure. But I think our Paleothic ancestors might lay claim to having done something older than farming. :)

Nope, oldest profession is politician/law man as in chief of the tribe. Hunting and gathering in groups predates farming. Second oldest profession is groupie to the chief.
