With the fate of Harvards affirmative action lawsuit in the hands of a judge, a new study stemming from that suit has raised more questions about the role of wealth, race and access in college admissions at prestigious universities.
The study, published earlier this month in the National Bureau of Economic Research, found that 43 percent of white students admitted to Harvard University were recruited athletes, legacy students, children of faculty and staff, or on the deans interest list applicants whose parents or relatives have donated to Harvard.
That number drops dramatically for black, Latino and Asian American students, according to the study, with less than 16 percent each coming from those categories. The study also found that roughly 75 percent of the white students admitted from those four categories, labeled 'ALDCs' in the study, would have been rejected if they had been treated as white non-ALDCs, the study said.

Harvard lets in unqualified dolts? No way /S
Or that Malia Obama got in in on her grades and scores?
Whatever, I’m just glad they are hiring Indian woman.
As a Yale grad I can confirm that these schools are now primarily interested in admitting people “of color” and of trans-sexuality of one sort or another. There is no more room for raw intelligence. The diploma means very little.
His lifetime goal was medicine. He wasn't a genius he just worked his butt off and was the Valedictorian of his class as well as an all state hockey defenseman on his schools state championship hockey team. His school was Grosse Poine Liggett, a highly rated private school on Detroit's east side.
All the Ivy league hockey teams tried to recruit him but because he wanted to play and not sit out his freshman year, he chose Williams College which is a highly rated, small private school in Massachusetts ($84,000 per year with no tuition assistance). So he had fun playing hockey and finished in the top 10 of his class.
Now here's the kicker:
He applied to the University of Michigan medical school and by all intents and purposes, because of his exemplary academics, he should have been accepted. But he wasn't. Because of mandatory quotas, they had to allow minorities and foreign nationals before him. They told him while they couldn't accept him that year, they would accept him the following year.
So he said screw it. He had connections in the hockey world so he took off to Europe and played semi-pro hockey over there for a year. He fully intended to stay over there and have a try in the pros but his parents put a quick end to that thought and so he came home and enrolled at U of M.....
His medical training took him to the University of Pittsburgh for surgery then ultimately a Harvard fellowship in Thoracic surgery at Mass General hospital.......
He was just a hard working white kid
No. No. No. Last I heard, the SATs are going to add an "adversity" score so the facade of legitimacy can be maintained.
Ergo, it will be up to each school to take that "score" into consideration (cough..cough), or not, during the admittance vetting.
The Ivy leagues have been more about career connections for the elite than higher education for 150+ years. I’m surprised it’s not actually much higher.
Freegards
Oh my goodness. You just used “ergo.” Did you go to a safety school, too?
Typical, white liberal elites want affirmative action to block other more capable whites from taking their childrens spot at Harvard while handing out biscuits to minorities...
“Typical, white liberal elites want affirmative action to block other more capable whites from taking their childrens spot at Harvard while handing out biscuits to minorities...”
Well put.
Since “elites” in our society are corrupt perverts and other shady characters this shouldn’t surprise any one. Swearing fealty to Moloch is probably a big plus too.
That still is not generally the case with most Ivy league students. Yes, there are exceptions. However, most kids that get into Brown, Dartmouth, Harvard, Yale, Cornell, and especially Princeton all have pretty high IQs and SAT levels.
We all like to say that people who get into those schools don’t deserve it. Most really do. Some occasionally don not.
FYI, it is much easier to get into their post graduate programs than undergraduate programs.
Wonder how many white evangelicals are admitted?
Not surprising in the least - which is why ANYONE who still thinks that being at or graduating from an Ivy is proof of ‘superior’ intelligence or ability is just plain wrong - and needs to rethink their reflexive assessments.
“Wonder how many white evangelicals are admitted?”
Only those whose parent pledged a big enough donation..
The Asians and the Jews, apparently.
Or that’s how it was when I was at MIT.
Although I suspect now that a fair number of my Tribe have “made it” and so buy entrance for their lesser spawn, as well.
So, the Harvard graduates who are promoting social progress are mostly those who have never had to make their own way in life at an honest job. How surprised we should all be.
” 43 percent of white students admitted...”
False. 43% of all seats in the freshmen class are reserved for legacy kids, not just whites.
True for all top universities. Kids without Ivy League parents have a tough time getting into top schools.
I know a bright young man who was accepted by Cal Berkeley and rejected by Cal Long Beach. It is confusing and random. Students are suckered into universities even though the product is defective and not thrifty.
Young people should avoid expensive universities, find their talents, and get trained in their talents in best programs for a reasonable price.
Note that William (Rick) Singer, of college admission cheating fame, was only arrested AFTER Hunter got his degrees.
Seems like an OBVIOUS conspiracy to me.
This is so obvious.
The moderately famous movie actors who paid for fake test scores and fake sports credentials for their children are imbeciles.
They could have legally donated large amounts of money directly to the universities, and their children would have been almost automatically - and legally - accepted.
