Sorry to hear that, that’s like losing a child. I had to get one put down almost 16 years ago and I still won’t get one, it’s just too hard to say good bye.
Feel free to ignore advice you didn’t ask for, but in my opinion, the pain of good bye is more than overcome by the years of hello a pet brings.

I understand. It hurts to say goodbye. Pets are truly innocent beings. Thank you and the author of this post for giving an innocent being a wonderful life. You might consider taking in a shelter pet in honor of the pet you lost. I know from experience it is so hard to say goodbye, but they bring us so many years of companionship and joy. Some innocent being is terrified right now in a shelter.
