I’ve always thought that maybe fire making came out of flint knapping that been around for a million years or more.

Striking the two right rocks together generates a spark that falls into the dead grass at your feet.

I read a book that was explaining the development of the human brain. How the introduction of cooked meat was the catalyst.

According to this book, the big central rift in Africa had lots of lava flows. At the edge of those slow moving flows, lava likely gave them fire and introduced them to cooked meat as animals that died too close were roasted. Humans learned and it went from there.

And flint knapping is a good candidate for control.
