Star Wars II (1980) ruined Star Wars forever by turning the story into a soap opera.

Star Wars ended with Star Wars. It was supposed to be a one-off space tribute to the old swashbuckler movies.
My theory about the whole Star Wars “arc”...making it up as they went along.

I think you are right. I’ve heard that when Star Wars became such a huge hit movie, that George Lucas and his people had to come up with other story ideas. And that’s how other plot lines, such as Darth Vader being Luke’s father, came to be.

I also heard that they decided to make Luke and Leia brother and sister, so then she and Han Solo could have the romantic relationship, and nobody’s feelings would be hurt. After all, if Luke and Leia are siblings, no way she could end up with Luke.

I think we all know, if the original Star Wars movie had bombed, there never would have been any others, and thus there would have been no need for additional stories or back stories of characters.

Who wants to see a girl Luke Skywalker. Sure, a 95 lb girl can beat a 225 lb man. Only in the movies, otherwise she would be knocked out with one punch.

Well, powers that be in Hollywood feel a need to push girl power and all that. So there you go.

This is not the end of the Skywalker Saga the audience wanted for 40 years.

This was the beginning of the Palpatine Saga no one wanted at all.

Thanks.

Not going to watch this one.

It was nice of Disney plus to put them all up for streaming at a low, low price. I got to refresh myself on why all the movies after 3 sucked wind.

So Luke went from hero to anti-hero.

So she kills her granddad... and then takes his place as the new ultimate evil?

“Star Wars might be ruined...”

But only if you watch this one, right?

Maybe Yoda was kind of winging it.

There’s also this:

Dark Empire was also widely criticized for it and was considered one of the bad EU arcs.

Disney took Dark Empire and made it boring and stupid.

No. It was originally scheduled to be 9 parts. Lucas sold about 60 copies of a book that had all 9 stories. Then it was pulled. He bought back most of them when Star Wars took off. Missed some. But, it was originally supposed to be 9.

I am being forced, by loyalty of friendship, to go and see this movie tomorrow morning.

But I tell ya, I’d rather just go down to the local Space Force recruiting office and sign up!

Lucas sold his soul to the House of Mouse.

Not reading the spoilers, in case we do decide to go see it, but heard there was a lesbian kiss in the movie which puts it on notice for me.

This was very early, before The Force.

The demise began with the ewoks in the second half of sw vi.

Think of them as tribbles with legs if it helps. Plus it helped give employment opportunities to Little People that have been rather thin since The Wizard of Oz. And it entertains the oldest and the youngest family members if the entire family goes to the show. But come on, in an infinite universe there have to be at least a few alien races that look like portly upholstered French pugs.

Was Palpatine born in Hungary and a member of the Arrow Cross, by any chance?

I love ruining Star Wars by telling fan boys it the same dam movie over and over again good wins against evil, then evil wins against good and it repeats with a lot of pew pew pew and a freakin dog for a pilot.

I found it insulting that Kathleen Kennedy claimed there was no source material for ep 7-9. No books, comics, cartoons or video games.

There’s a LOT of source material Kathleen!!! I just read Timothy Zahn’s “Heir to the Empire” and Dark Horse Comics “Dark Empire”...some of the best Star Wars stories ever.
Material worthy for the silver screen.

Nope. We get two-hour infomercials.

Just saw the damn movie. Utter crap (D-)

Saw it today as part of an end of year team-building with my office. Visually lovely; it felt like the 70s Star Wars had been remade with today's technology and design sensibility. Loved the soundtrack. The more I reflect on the story, the more I'd have to say it was mostly incoherent.

What really struck me, though, was the theater was about half empty. We had middle of the row seats, and no one filled in the outer seats of our row. There was no one behind or in front of me. My team sees a lot of movies together, and this is the first time I remember such a sparse audience.
