I think it has to do with the processing that makes it worth while. Growing hemp like this is not hard. Harvesting is not as back breaking or mechanical (not a lot different than cutting down corm—although you don’t grind it up for silage. The fibers are strong, long, and easily processed.
Its not as fine...but you generally are not sleeping on it—they are used for ropes, sails, etc.
Many farms are using them to produce CBD oil. THAT is akin to bringing in silage. It gets put into a big vat with some chemicals and the oil is extracted—like extracting oil from any plant.

My son grows hemp. Hemp grown for CBD is identical to marijuana. He made me some CBD hashish.
I appreciate the offer, but I haven’t ever used it...Only “drug” I ever took was “speed” while I was in Vietnam...

My family grew acres of it for the war effort. It’s hard to get rid of as a volunteer crop. I’ve mowed and sprayed a lot of it. I used to joke about running the bailed thro it, putting the bale in an enemy’s car trunk, and calling the cops. As far as smoking, it’s useless. I did make a great way to camouflage real pot plants for some in my area.
If it doesn’t make a guy high I doubt the user would call it “pot” or “dope” regardless of having the same or a different Latin name; they always think of pot being attached to the mood altering properties rather than the species or mere looks. So when I said ‘real pot,’ species had nothing to do with it, just whether or not it will meet the expectations of the consumer. There’s going to be a lot of market havoc as people learn the hard way who has reliable product.
That’s one the low end of the high stuff. I’ve seen them in the high 20’s. That stuff will give you “couch lock.”

Seems to be a problem with a smokable Rx to get the right dosage.
