My wife does a great toad-in-the-hole, but it’s hard to find proper bangers here — gotta make do. She’s working on Scottish eggs now.
That sounds like the place in Whitehall I used to go to, like you back in the ‘80s. It proved there is a Divinity and He loves us very much. ;) The guy there scolded me something fierce for trying to put tomato sauce on them before I tried them. He was wise beyond human understanding.
I’m a southerner, too, but found there was enough deep-frying going on I was pretty much to home, especially when I ended up in Sutton Coldfield (outside Birmingham). Food in Birmingham was more flavorful to me.
