You think directly targeting and killing innocent people, with no military purpose, is OK?

You are no better than ISIS.

Thanks for the insult. I’m not better than ISIS?? Are you really that full of it? I have not committed any terrorist acts in my life. You really think I am.no better than ISIS, for a statement on a website such as this?

Why don’t you explain to us your view of the bombing of Dresden, rather than calling me someone of an an ISIS type mindset?

If targeting civilians providing battlefield and economic sustenance to enemy regimes had no military utility, there wouldn’t be laws against it. Above all, military commanders want to win, because the cost of losing is unthinkable. If sparing enemy civilians is an aid to victory, they’ll leave them alone.

Alexander did not put Persepolis’s male population to the sword because he loved killing Persians - he did it to avoid guerrilla warfare that might whittle down his army, zero out his finances and stir his troops to mutiny*. And he did it to set an example to all other kingdoms that might resist his armies instead of surrendering.

* In the end, Alexander’s Greek troops mutinied and are said to have poisoned him and killed his entire clan because they felt he favored his Persian subjects excessively.

They weren't innocent. We were at war with Germany not German soldiers. Every German citizen had a military purpose either directly or indirectly.

Like hell they were innocent. They were Nazi, that was a Nazi Transportation Hub, and the Russian army was coming in from the East. You supposed to leave them it untouched prepared to defend itself?
What else were the bombers supposed to do that day?

I swear, there’s a certain element of people that must watch the history channel and get a little sad feeling as the Red Army moved into Berlin.

Dresden was a manufacturing center.

You think the bombing of infrastructure has no military purpose?

You have the same level of military competence as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

It might be a good idea for you to go find a forum with no historians and no Veterans on it so that your level of ignorance on the topic doesn’t grate on people.

Seriously.

You are like the people who absolutely know where milk comes from. Duh, it comes from the refrigerated section at the grocery store.

Cite which specific events you are speaking about. Perhaps Nanking? or Warsaw? or Stalingrad? or maybe Manila?

A fact lightly touched on in the story was that Stalin demanded Dresden be bombed because it was a transportation hub in the way of his advancing army.

Only the factually ignorant can believe Dresden wasn’t a legitimate target.

Look at a map, then post.

Dresden was a transportation hub; the Allies feared the Wehrmacht would retreat through there, regroup, and hole up in Bavaria - a mountainous region very difficult to attack.

Dresden was also home to a number of industries as vital to the German war effort as armored vehicle assembly plants and aircraft factories: optics, gun sights, electronics, seals for hydraulics, various other precision small parts. Factories too small to be located and targeted individually.

Morally, it’s less than admirable for you to sit here in comfort, enjoying the fruits of peacetime 75 years after the fact, breezily striking a moralizing pose, denigrating the sacrifices of forbears that made your lotus-eating existence possible. It’s also a pretty cheeky display of arrogance, ingratitude, and bad taste.

We stopped using WW2 rules of engagement after 1945. The US has not definitively won a war since then.

I've heard it said that a war often doesn't end until the enemy leadership has their wives and daughters crying to them, to please make it stop.

I believe Hitler was elected and retained power because of the people of Germany.

Regardless, War is Heck, (Richard Nixon). The military’s hands can’t be tied, if you want to WIN.

Being RUTHLESS is part of winning.

This is why war should be avoided, but once in it, no holds barred.

The only warning our adversaries need to know is Don’t Mess With The US of A.

Must watch patriotic video.
