It pains me to say this, but the Japanese/SK/Singaporeans are culturally superior to us because of discipline, personal responsibility, observance of polite social norms and manners, and respect for others.
The respect for others, discipline, and personal responsibility USED to be considered our national assets as well.
Then came teachers unions and federalized education.
One thing Singapore did, very early on, was quarantine the contacts of those who tested positive. And apparently the quarantined contacts DID THAT. Here, you’ve got people saying ‘this is why we kept our guns’ and crap. Because they want to shoot the health officers or something?

ah so. I haven’t looked at Japan, but Singapore, SK and Hong Kong are using cell phone tracking, facial recognition AI software, bank tracking, cameras on every corner and actual wristbands to enforce quarantines. Not sure if that exactly counts as traditionally ‘culturally superior’ or traditionally culturally oppressed.
