After ignoring warnings, Israeli ultra-Orthodox hit by virus

BNEI BRAK, Israel (AP) — Early this week, the streets of the central Israeli city of Bnei Brak were bustling with shoppers as ultra-Orthodox residents, obeying their religious leaders, ignored pleas to stay home in the face of the coronavirus threat.

By Friday, Bnei Brak had become the country’ worst hot spot and now resembles a ghost town. One expert estimated that nearly 40% of the city’s population might already have been infected.

100,000 tourists stuck in New Zealand to leave as rules ease

The German Embassy in Wellington last week said that more than 12,000 tourists had signed up for its repatriation program, in which the German government is chartering flights, mostly from Air New Zealand.
British High Commissioner Laura Clarke said 10,000 British tourists had registered with her office wanting to return home..

...While most of the stranded tourists are from the U.K. and Europe, officials said about 2,700 tourists from Asia and 3,800 from North and South America combined had also signed up to be repatriated....

...American tourist Lisa Horvath told RNZ that the news she would soon be able to return home and see her dog had come as a huge relief. She said she could now enjoy her walks in New Zealand, which are allowed under the lockdown rules.
“I feel like I can enjoy those places instead of resenting being here, which is kind of the space that I was getting in emotionally,” she said. “I was so desperate to find out when I was getting home.”

THANK YOU!!!

I just want to make this clear John Hopkins University which most of our data is coming from filters all their statistics though the China CDC (CCDC) using a blockchain called MiPasa.

Pantothenic Acid is a precursor to the sulfur cycle. Pantothenate kinase (4 different depending on body systems) is required for conversion to 4-phosphopantothenic acid for the actual entry into the cycle. From there the dominate reaction with cysteine is 4'-phosphopantothenolyl-l-cysteine and then 4-phosphopantetheine. This is the point where exogenous pantetheine enters the cycle via pantetheine kinase.

For reference, pantethine is the dysulfide bond of panteheine. Pantetheine and/or 4'-phosphopantetheine is converted by pantetheine-phospateadenylytransferase to dephosnpho-coenzyme A. The reaction then involves the protein dephospho-Coa kinase to convert to Coenzyme A. After CoA the diminutive reactions breakdown CoA to pantetheine again and then to Cysteamine via vanin proteins. From there cysteamine is converted via cysteamine deoxygenase to hypotaurine. Hypotaurine dehydrogenase converts hypotaurinte to taurine (bidirectional)

Pantetheine can also renter the cycle before the conversion to cysteamine.

That is one side of the cycle.

It is a bit complicated and autocorrect spelling makes it worse and me ready to hit the bed.

B5 is the feedstock as well as cysteine.

Complicated, however any breakdown in the cycle leads to many varied disease states including negative outcomes with viral infection and cancer.

Best.

Ricketts defends not ordering shelter-in-place in Nebraska

...The governor has taken a regional approach as well, ordering bans on 10-person gatherings and forcing restaurants to close their dining rooms in areas where confirmed cases of the virus can’t be traced. Those bans are now in place in 56 of Nebraska’s 93 counties, accounting for well over two-thirds of the state’s population and virtually all of its population centers.

...Ricketts, a former executive at TD Ameritrade, said forcing businesses to shutter when they can still safely operate won’t necessarily keep the virus from spreading, particularly if companies are able to keep their workers separated. He said he expects confirmed cases to increase over the next several weeks as more people are tested, but he doesn’t anticipate the same sharp jumps as other states.
He also argued that Nebraska has had more time to prepare …

Expat here living in The Netherlands. According to Worldometer, The Netherlands is currently #5 in the world (less San Marino and Andorra) for number of deaths per million.

We’re hunkered down in a “soft” lockdown if you can call it that. Some people are still out in the streets, walking, running, and bicycling (a Dutch passion). Most people at home, but maybe going out for groceries or being outside for gardening, etc. That’s my neighborhood. Some more exotic neighborhoods may be very different, but I’ve not heard anything.

I started to hunker down around the beginning of February (based on news reports out of Wuhan reported here on FR). The FR daily thread has been of tremendous help.

I cancelled a mission trip to Ukraine for early March and lost the price of my ticket, but gained time to being out of close contact with people. Right now doing some teaching by internet and preparing to stay hunkered down at least until June (and probably longer).

Ricketts being a good example of being stupid.

A team from University College London (UCL) and University College London Hospital (UCLH) have worked with Mercedes Formula One to adapt and improve existing CPAP in a process known as reverse engineering.

...Reports from Italy suggest around half of the patients given CPAP avoided the need for invasive mechanical ventilation.

Univ of TX spring break CV Mexico trip cases - Wednesday, that number grew to 44.

Those students traveled on a chartered flight from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport on March 14 and returned March 19, according to an airport official. There were at least 70 students on the outbound flight, and most of them returned on the chartered flight.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has given Mexico and Cabo San Lucas a “Level 3” ranking in which they recommend that travelers avoid all nonessential travel not only to our country but to all global destinations.

Baja California Sur is at Phase 2 against Covid-19. Authorities have been testing locals and travelers resulting in 137 negative results, 36 suspicious and 12 confirmed Coronavirus cases in Los Cabos and 5 in La Paz, that are already under medical control.

We need the antibody test urgently. Everyone who knows that they have been in contact with someone who tested positive should get the antibody test first. Then everyone who has been in contact with something, such as mail, from such a person.

If we knew that lots of people in these groups have already had and are now immune to the C virus, life could return to normal much sooner than with all the current uncertainty.
