This was one of my favorite parts of the Ancient Art class. Because the caves were becoming damaged, the authorities moved tourists from the real cave to a replica cave. There's one replica cave for Altamira, and three for Lascaux. In all cases, the art of the modern copyists loses compared to the originals.

Thank you, mairdie!

When I was a child I saw the Lascaux cave. Interesting music.

I look at these cave paintings, tens of thousands of years old; then I look at my house, repainted about 7 years ago. I am asked to believe that my house paint is the latest in a high tech, modern world. Those cave paintings were done by ignorant savages in a pre-historic age. Notwithstanding, I wish I could get the savages to come paint my house. :^/

Excellent, as always. So much better than a lot of scribbling that passes as “art” these days. Please, please,(although I do think you are sane so I’m sure you wouldn’t) don’t ever make a Basquait video.

Some of the animals, especially at Altamira suggest those found in centuries old Chinese scroll work. There’s something about the quality of the drawings and the limited palette of both.

In a little less than 20 years looking at hundreds of pieces by local artists I’ve seen ONE watercolor that could have come from those caves. The Ancient Artists really knew their stuff.

Hope you had a wonderful Easter.

Stay safe and thanks for sharing your special talents with us.
