Asian Giant Hornets are native to China as well but most known for inhabiting rural parts of Japan.
IMHO the coronavirus panic is dying down so they need something else to panic the public. I *think* the New York Slimes was the first to write an article on this but I haven’t dug that far yet. Too busy drinking beer.

Ha! the story I heard said that the murder hornets came from Japan, cleverly omitting that it, like all other plagues, really came from China.
