What ever that “true count is”, it represents the number of people who will follow government edicts, blindly.
Today’s historic Gospel periscope is quite relevant.

Not to equate anyone with God or Christ but to equate the current society/culture with the polytheistic peoples of Athens.
Blindly chasing after what makes them feel better about themselves. And, in feeling better about themselves, they make themselves a “god”.
“Whatever people worship and hold as their highest good, that is their god.” (small ‘g’).
