Something may be eating them.
I finally had to do something to fence off my peas from the woodchucks and rabbits.
What I did was plant them in a small area of a circle, filling it pretty well, and then I put a tomato cage around it and wrapped it with chicken wire. They are little self-contained
fences around the cluster of peas I planted.
It works very well, but you do have to make sure the chicken wire goes high enough to go above the plant tops.
Those woodchucks can climb and will eat the tops of the plants, whatever they can reach. I wish I could shoot them, but that’s not allowed in town.
They just looked sickly and flimsy the times I tried to grow them. . . .no peas appeared. Maybe I didn’t give them time to “materialize”. Have no problem with green beans.
Maybe Irish Spring soap will keep them away.
