Whitmer says she had 'opening conversation' about Biden VP pick

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) said on Tuesday that she has had an “opening conversation” with Joe Biden’s campaign about her potential as a running mate pick for the former vice president and presumptive Democratic presidential nominee.

In an interview on NBC’s “The Third Hour of Today,” Whitmer revealed that she has had a “conversation with some folks” about the running mate slot, but said that she did not see the discussion as particularly formal and is solely committed for the time being to her official duties as governor.

“It was just an opening conversation and it’s not something that I would call a professional, formalized vetting,” Whitmer told NBC’s Craig Melvin.

“I am making a little bit of time to stay connected to the campaign, but the most important thing that I have to do right now is be the governor of my home state. That’s all that matters to me in this moment.”

**SNIP**

Biden has offered little information as to who specifically he is considering, though he has said that he wants to choose a running mate that is “simpatico” with him. He is also said to particularly value political experience - a quality Whitmer certainly has from nearly two decades of public service in state and local government.

Biden just wants to give her a sniff. She would be a horrible attention to his campaign. Who likes her? Nobody in Michigan other than the dyed in the wool Liberal Progressives.

The irony is that Whitmer over Abrams would alienate the hardcore social justice crowd. She has high negatives after her HRC melt-down when she lost. She would perform worse today for the governors office than she did in 2018. Sore loser.

Whitmer has not performed well in Michigan during this crisis. She has high negatives and would be unlikely to win the governor’s race if it were held today. Very dictator like.

The downsides to both are obvious and again this points out how weak the democrat field is in 2020. The frightening thing is that they still have a legitimate shot even though their candidates have lots of problems.

It did not help Biden when he pandered-pledged a female running mate. They should have thought this through a bit more and based on leftwing insider reporting I don’t think Biden’s handlers knew he was going to do that on the trail. Who knows?

I don’t see any realistic pick that strengthens the Biden ticket beyond playing the demographic game.

Thanks to VOTER FRAUD via MAIL-IN BALLOTS, the VP pick is irrelevant.

Herr Whitmer - the Tranny Hitler. Does Biden really think that will help him carry Michigan? He’d be better off selecting the Ghettopotamus from Georgia.

I can’t see her having any pull at all in Ohio, we are pretty red now. Likewise Indiana, who will no doubt support their son Pence for VP. I suppose she would flip MI.

She is going to loose the Gov seat in ‘22.
She might as well jump in.

Some follow-ups are in order here.

First, thanks for your kind words, FRiend laplata.

Good analysis, FRiend volunbeer. Pandering is right! Still, I don’t even see Whitmer flipping Michigan at this point. There’s certainly lots of precedent for presidential candidates failing to carry their home state, Al Gore in 2000 leaping to mind. DJT in 2016 doesn’t count, considering the political derangement of NYC. My part of New York, suburban Buffalo, is nearly as patriotic as my current home in Florida.

As for you, FRiend Liberty, may I first applaud you for being the namesake of my all-time favorite Western.

I’m glad you mentioned that “Karen” meme, which I am only beginning to understand.

As a lifelong student of onomastics — the branch of linguistics that focuses on name origins and meanings — I recognize that there’s a certain karma about names.

Karen is a pretty common female name and one I never would have associated with the image of an angry, ever-complaining, massively entitled harpy.

The one Karen I can recall from my high school graduating class of 1975 was a nice girl who I hope found herself a conservative guy and now has lots of conservative kids and grandkids.

“Gretchen” on the other hand, could become a superb replacement for the “Karen” meme. Quoting Woody Allen — disgusting little man though he is — “Gretchen” has that “Prussian, Aryan, Nordic, Nazi” ring to it.

It also has the advantage of not being anywhere near as common as Karen.

Might I suggest that “Gretchen” might eventually become FReepspeak for a certain class of nasty, bossy females?

You’re very welcome... and thank you for this neat post.

I believe that Whitmer has handed Michigan to Trump.

Oh, I need to mention that I’ve thought for a long time that Hillary Clinton, for one, is a first class Gretchen.
