My understanding is “Mercer” is named after General Hugh Mercer, who was born in Scotland fought with Bonnie Prince Charles, escaped death an immigrated to America where he took up what he had done which a medical doctor, He fought alongside Washington in war in the 1750’s. Then went back to medicine, eventually he joined up with Washington again during the Revolution an achieved the rank of General, He was killed at the Battle of Princeton.

Gen. MERCER, a HERO of the American Revolution, was the brainchild behind the DURHAM boats that Washington used to cross the Delaware and SAVE the new Nation.
