Seattle City Council advances cuts to police but they fall short of activists’ rallying cries

The Seattle Police Department will not see a 50 percent budget cut this year following a Wednesday vote by the Seattle City Council, despite seeing a number of cuts across the board.

A proposal by Seattle City Council member and Socialist Alternative member Kshama Sawant sought to immediately cut $54 million from the Seattle police budget and another $34 million for affordable housing.

The proposal saw seven council members voting against, with Sawant being the sole vote in favor. Another council member abstained.

The department's proposed 2020 budget is over $400 million total.

A number of other police budget cuts were still passed by the council on Wednesday, including laying off 100 police officers this year.

“The Council is a co-equal branch of government to the Mayor,” Seattle City Council member Tammy J. Morales said in a statement. “It is our job to make these public safety decisions, specifically the city's investments through our budget process. To hand these duties off to the executive branch would be irresponsible.”

Does that mean City Council members get less security? Cool! And if you didn't already know, Sawant is the lead socialist of the bunch.

Does that mean City Council members get less security?

They probably hire private security, at tax payer expense.

I hope the socialists get their way in Seattle. Sometimes the best punishment is giving people what they demand.

These people are either too stupid, or too evil to govern themselves.

How about no more security at city council meetings for a start as a good place to make a cut?

That’s too bad the council walked back from the cliff because their polls were showing them this would be their last term on the council had they not. I would love for Seattle or Portland to be an example to the rest of the liberals in the country of what happens when you substantially defund the police as Seattle or Portland go up in flames after the Great Defund.. No great loss when it comes to those cities.

If it was me the cuts would only come from non-lethal methods for riot and looting suppression as a issued shoot to kill orders.....

Anyone providing security for the elite when thing change and they will these folks if they ever try to get a job a police force anywhere - this pops up.

Same thing with white girls, facial recognition of rioters go into the database now and show up on background checks later. Once these millenials parents realize being in these protests is going to stick with you the rest of your life, they won't be able to get into there helicopters fast enough.

The democrats are willingly obeying their new masters. From now on, democrats will be asking antifa and blm what laws to pass, what laws to enforce, what holidays to have, what streets to close, and who should get which money. The democrats have made it quite clear they are answering to their new dominatrixes, and they are not answering to the people.

antifa and blm want to rule the entire country, and been successful in seattle and portland. They are doing quite well in minneapolis and new york.

I have to say it again, clearly. “The democrat party is no longer working for the betterment of citizens, but is now under the control of antifa and blm.”

You can quote me on it.
