The one thing I learned working in uniform in NY State's prison system for 25 years, is that street thugs hold grudges for many years. If they had a problem with someone on the street, and they run into that same person, or someone related to that person, they will seek revenge any way they can.

This guy was too stupid to last many years, to be honest. He rides his bike to a martial arts box to pretend to sign up..and the whole time is thinking just gotta get this MA master to pull her phone out somehow so I can steal it. Tries...fails...and doesnt even get his bike back. If he was trying to initiate his way into a gang, I hope THEY beat the sh*t out of him ...after they stopped rolling their eyes.
But, that doesnt negate your statements, which I absolutely believe.
