Homeschooling and using state services question
14 Aug 2020

Posted on 08/14/2020 7:28:08 PM PDT by rey

I may homeschool a vision impaired child in Northern California. I have homeschooled children before and was homeschooled myself.

When I was homeschooled certain public school classes and services were available to homeschoolers, like driver's ed and trying out for an athletic team. I know the rules are not uniform and that teams sports are outside the services available to homeschoolers in California now.

My question is, will the special services she now gets in public school still be available to her? She does have an Individualized Education Program (IEP) and I believe she will still be available for that but I am not sure how. Where is all the information on such things? It should be available via the state without having to sign on with a homeschooling service.

Any other technical info about current legal requirements and such would also be greatly appreciated. The actual teaching is not such a problem as I have taught many things at many levels over the years.

Thanks.

Contact and join HSLDA.

May you never have need of them.

Home School Legal Defense Association HSLDA has a section on their website that outlines the legal requirements for each state.

They are the ones who can give definitive answers to your questions and with the insane lefties in charge of your state, it is a very good idea to join as a member in case some officious government Karen decides to get all up in your business.

It might differ from state to state and county to county but I teach ESE in Florida and yes, homeschoolers at are allowed in.

Let 2020 mark the resumption of the HOME & CHRISTIAN SCHOOLING that was once the norm here before the Marxists captured the GOVERNMENT SCHOOLS!
The video at the link has some info parents of school age kids need BEFORE they ship them off to become the NEXT GENERATION of brainless vandals now tearing the country apart.

I agree with the above. Join HSLDA. But, when I was homeschooling a thousand years ago in California, the school districts were required by law to provide IEP services to those of age not enrolled in public schools. My memory suggests that it was a court case involving a private school students. But then, private school is how we homeschooled.

Don’t know specifically about California, but if you’re having trouble getting resources I would look into the option of joining a local charter school for homeschoolers. You are technically considered a public school student, so you should be eligible for services, while still homeschooling. There are always strings attached, but some charter schools are more flexible than others.

Thank you!

They're right on schedule. We should have stopped them much sooner. Just pray it's not too late!
