Lawsuit: Chipotle Keeps Change, Without Customers' Consent

According to a new lawsuit filed on Thursday in Allegheny County Common Pleas Court, Chipotle is keeping change from customers' orders, without their permission. The rounding up on tabs in some Chipotle chain locations has quickly added up to hundreds of thousands of dollars stolen from customers.

Yikes! Lawyer Frank Salpietro said he believes this is a move by corporate bosses: “It has become very clear that this is a top-down directive from the corporation, this is how they should handle the situation."

Fox News reports:

The state attorney general’s office has received at least seven complaints, reports said.

Corporate bosses are likely behind the move, a lawyer told the station.

One customer in Hampton, Pa., said she received $4 change on a bill of $15.51 instead of receiving $4.49 after paying with a $20 bill, KDKA reported. A restaurant employee simply withheld the remaining 49 cents, she claimed.

Another customer, in Pine, Pa., received $11 change on a bill of $8.72 instead of receiving $11.28 after paying with a $20 bill, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported.

“What we’ve learned is that they are telling people after they order their food and give their money to the cashier that they don’t have any change so they are not going to be able to give you the change,” Salpietro continued.

He added that he thinks the restaurant will use the so-called national coin shortage as an excuse, but he said that he isn't buying that.

“I understand that the pandemic is affecting all of us,” Salpietro added. “But that doesn’t give Chipotle the license to line its own pockets at the expense of consumers, particularly when you hide behind a coin shortage to justify taking more money than you should.”

Such actions can hurt customers who are struggling to make ends meet, according to KDKA.

There was no immediate response from the restaurant chain.

I don't see this ending well for the Mexican grill.

I do it very easily. After ask where the money’s going. If I don’t like the cashier’s answer, I take a moment to respectfully explain why I’m saying no. I’ve actually had strangers come up to me and thank me for that.

Sigh.

also you could just say “not today” when they ask you to round up. Goodwill does this for their “mission”.

The “bbq” they have is pretty authentic, it’s just like the overcooked nasty crud the illegals make down on the Texas border.

The U.S. Treasury Department confirmed a couple weeks ago that there is a national shortage of coins and small bills.

Here in Seattle, most banks and businesses have no quarters.

Apparently, COVID-19 has caused a massive shift to online purchases and card payments.

The huge amount of cash that circulates through bars, restaurants, vending machines at work, churches, and retail stores has basically dried up because most of those establishments are closed or doing very limited business.

The coins and bills are still out there, but they are not being spent or deposited in banks.

Maybe it’s because their employees are lazy. Seems fitting for a libtard organization.

Ate there one time and will be the last.

All these years of me giving them change so all they have to do is give me back bills, and cashiers looking at me like I’m a Martian. Now they want to round up?

Funny thing - lots of time when I gave them change, they still gave me back change!

Chipotle wouldn’t have had a problem if it had just rounded the amount down and returned the customer more change than expected. Would have created some goodwill when a customer points out that too much change was returned and are told that the bill had been rounded down due to the coin shortage. Giving the customer a few cents extra change would be more than worth it if the customer returns for another meal.

Same thing happened to me a couple of times at a certain Fast Food place.

Once I gave the girl at the drive thru window a $20 bill and some change so I’d get back a ten and a five. She called the manager.......................
