FreeRepublic Sports League/Replacing Televised Sports

Like many others, I've had to give up basically all sports over the last few years.

What we need, is a replacement. I thought about this today and....

What if we created a fantasy football league type scenario where we instead of picking players, picked publicly traded stocks?

The games would be a match up of Freepers, or teams of Freepers.

The game would be the stocks performance during the course of the week. For example, if your QB is Disney and it does well for the week, you get a certain amount of points.

Same would go for defense, special teams, etc.

Curious if you are all interested in creating a format for this and replacing sports with this model?

Interesting idea. I gave up sports a while ago. Maybe making time for some playoff hockey is about all.

Like the idea but haven’t the time.

Q: How do you get Disney off your porch?

A: Pay him for the pizza! :)

(doesn’t have the same ‘zing’ as making fun of UGA and FSU)

Each state has a team, or more depending on population.

Each team can have a long list of players that work together in selecting financial instruments and positioning them each week. A schedule would be made, similar to the NFL schedule or similar.

Lets keep it simple.

meat, fire and beer.

Everyone put a fridge in your garage, open the big door, start the fire, put some meat on. Put a trump sign on the lawn.

It will attract the right kind of men. Get started. We will look forward to doing this every night of the week.

To make it more like fantasy football:

o Each team is run by one Freeper who competes with all of the other Freepers
o A team consists of something like 20 stocks on a particular exchange, e.g. NYSE or you could have 10 on one and 10 on another or even throw in some commodities like pork bellies.
o You play only 10 of the stocks each week. On Sunday evening you announce which stocks you are playing and then the results are recorded Friday after the close of the exchange. You ignore anything that happens after hours.
o For each stock you announce whether you are playing it to gain, to lose, to stabilize, or to thrash. You make points if your gain stocks go up, your lose stocks go down, your stabilized stocks remain the same, and your thrash stocks undergo the greatest difference between low and high for the week.
o You decide on what weeks the season starts and ends and keep track of the point totals
o You could have a draft where each stock can only be owned by one player. Then during the season you can trade stocks.
o Whoever has the most points at the end of the season wins the eternal appreciation of the other participants or you could use PayPal or Venmo to transfer real money

We can go short or long investments. Each week should be a head to head match up against another Freeper team, instead of just a free for all. I kind of like the idea that we are teams, made up of Freepers from the state’s we live in.

But, I’m open to all ideas. With a little work, we can have something fun.

Maximum Freepers per team, let’s call it 5. After that, go ahead and start another team for your State. Each team has to have at least 3 freepers, but not more than ...

QB... WR.... Offensive line...all about going Long.

Defensive line, Secondary, it’s about defense, going short.

Special teams... Kicker, Punter...could be commodities, options, bitcoin...

Please, someone start up an Oakland Raider franchise, Denver Broncos.... I hated you guys back in the 80s.

Home team gets to pick players first, visitor cannot pick the same investments. It’s about performance for the ensuing week.

I’d love to pick Tesla for Defense in the coming week, that overvalued stock looks ripe for a tanking.

How about we have teams of American heros and on the other side we use those Antifa mugshot dufuses?
