Wait, there’s nothing in the Catechism about Catholics must oppose the death penalty. That’s newfangled liberal catholic tripe. Catholics must oppose abortion - that’s innocent life. We have never categorically opposed the death penalty. something doesn’t smell right about that.
You bet it doesn't smell right. It actually contradicts the Church's 2000-year old magisterium, a fancy Latin word for the whole body of teaching. The pope is supposed to be the defender of that magisterium. Bergoglio not so much.
