I think you’ve got it exactly right. If Biden bows out - or is forced out - the DNC gets to choose his replacement. And those D electors will (out of party loyalty) vote for whomever the DNC picks...Michelle, Hillary, Pee Wee Herman, etc.
Pee Wee Herman is Joe Biden with some energy.
