Used to be a man would PUBLICLY stand up and congratulate the one that beat him out and his private thoughts were somewhat private AND if part of the ‘inner circle’ leaked derogatory remarks, the public - in general - would figure the leaker knew not of what he spoke and was being vindictive.
Today EVERYONE writes a tell all book - wonder how many are actually read???, just another way to pocket a good advance on speculation of what one MAY say...
When Pete Roses streak was ended he was and stayed ‘Peed off’ at the pitcher for not throwing a fast ball even though PR tried to extend it when his team was down by 10 or so runs and he tried to bunt in his last at bat.
Pete sort of diminished in my mind after that stunt (being whizzed that the pitcher did his BEST to get him out - I can see him being momentarily frustrated and blurting something out — but to hold a grudge for years is stupid and shows what kind of person he REALLY is/was)
Say what you will about Dennis, but he worked his ass off at being one of the best rebounders the game has ever seen.
