An elderly gardener died from a brain-eating amoeba found in soil after it turned part of his frontal lobe into a mushy liquid, according to researchers in Georgia.

The 82-year-old man is believed to have contracted the shape-shifting organism while potting plants at an unnamed location, and was later struck by seizures, according to a case-study, which was published this week in the New England Journal of Medicine.

The man was first treated for bacterial, fungal and viral meningitis before becoming drowsy and suffering from seizures, researchers from Emory University in Atlanta said in the report. He died nine days after being admitted to a hospital.

They never say that it is probably due to a compromised immune system due to his advanced age. I am sure that there fas been about 10 children playing in the area eating that same dirt with no ill effects.

But still, he managed to vote a straight Democratic Party ticket before he checked out.

When you are potting plants, you generally don’t use dirt from the ground as it introduces too many diseases to your plants. It’s better to buy bags of potting soil.

But he was no doubt on a fixed income and probably couldn’t afford potting soil, so he used garden dirt.

Yesterday my daughter told me a boy mixed a drink with his spit in a pencil sharpener and then drank it.

One can bake the soil in the oven for a set period of time and temperature to sterilize the soil.

I did it one year when I was starting a garden early in the spring in IL, and wanted to do my own starts.

Worked just fine.

Prolific garden that year, due to an over fertilizing at the start.

I got lucky as a neophyte.

My huge plot received a full broadcast of fertilizer.

The downside was that I only gardened 1/4 of the space.

I had the best looking weeds in the other 3/4 of the space that money could buy.

That way with words is getting more attention for sure. Changes in news reporting resulting from the popularity of the Internet are bringing some interesting changes, indeed. Some people get tougher. Many others get crazier.

Actually the do say it, which is why it helps to read the article rather than just the summary.

The old man could have picked up the amoeba anywhere. Mostly young people are killed by it, because they’re more likely to swim in mucky places or play in dirt or mud. The victims might be getting it into the brain mostly by way of the nose.

It’s very rare for people to die from that, though, maybe because it’s difficult to get the amoeba into the brain. When swimming in murky water, avoid inhaling it. Don’t stick it up the nose when doing anything with soil.

I like swimming and fishing in murky lakes and ponds with algae floating on them. I also like planting vegetables in the yard. ;)

So now they want people to be afraid to do their own gardening.

Can’t have any of the being independent stuff, you know. Not depending on the government for sustenance.

I surmised the issue before I read the full article. This proves how knowledgeable and prescient that I am. Damn, I am impressive!

Please summarize the rest of the article for me in another post will you? I need more spare time to bathe my brain in even more alcohol.
