the legendary guitarist and co-founder of Van Halen -- has died after a long battle with throat cancer ... TMZ has learned.
Pretty well known he has in bad shape for awhile. DLR pretty much let the cat out of the bag months ago.
Sucks
sad
Neh-ver liked him anyway
RIP
RIP. Maybe it’s silly to mention this but you wonder how many are left who were involved in the production of Michael Jackson’s 1982 album Thriller? As those who have since passed now include Michael himself, Rod Temperton (songwriter), Eddie, and some other fairly well known session guitarist whose name I do not immediately recall (possibly someone here can help).
A finger-tapping virtuoso. Possibly the greatest guitarist who ever lived.
I remember my mom wouldn't let me buy this album because it had a baby smoking on it. Consequently I never really got into Van Halen although I like a few of their songs. Was waiting to see them for the first time on a proper reunion tour with all the original members including Michael Anthony, but that isn't going to happen now.
She divorced him YEARS ago.
Y’know what...this year is absolutely, without a shadow of a doubt, sucking big green ones.
Damn. RIP Eddie.
Eruption. Best ever. My cousin could emulate it but I couldn’t get close.
Greatest guitar player ever, if you ask me. Innovative, distinctive, and able to perform it equally well live, which many cant do with techniques as complex as his. Farewell, and God Bless.
Eddie was very proud of that one. Keyboards were a new instrument for him. But his true medium is guitar. Those solos. Amazing.
Great guitarist, and maybe the most innovative guitarist of our age. He basically had to build his own stuff, which allowed him to create tools and techniques that will last for generations.
“...Im getting old...”

Beats the alternative!
The big hair 80s metal guitarists are pretty much interchangeable to me, but 65 is too young for any guy to check out. He had a lot of fans who will miss him.
Yes, an astounding display of electric guitar virtuosity. The guitar was HIS instrument. Valerie used to say that Eddie would move his fingers as if playing when asleep.
