It was two weeks ago when I received the diagnosis that so many Americans across our country and the world had already receivedI tested positive for COVID-19. To make matters worse, my husband, and our nations Commander-in-Chief, received the same news.
Naturally my mind went immediately to our son. To our great relief he tested negative, but again, as so many parents have thought over the past several months, I couldnt help but think what about tomorrow or the next day?. My fear came true when he was tested again and it came up positive. Luckily he is a strong teenager and exhibited no symptoms. In one way I was glad the three of us went through this at the same time so we could take care of one another and spend time together. He has since tested negative.
I was very fortunate as my diagnosis came with minimal symptoms, though they hit me all at once and it seemed to be a roller coaster of symptoms in the days after. I experienced body aches, a cough and headaches, and felt extremely tired most of the time. I chose to go a more natural route in terms of medicine, opting more for vitamins and healthy food. We had wonderful caretakers around us and we will be forever grateful for the medical care and professional discretion we received from Dr. Conley and his team. It was an unfamiliar feeling for me to be the patient instead of a person trying to encourage our nation to stay healthy and safe. It was me being taken care of now, and getting first-hand experience with all that COVID-19 can do. As the patient, and the person benefitting from so much medical support, I found myself even more grateful and in awe of caretakers and first responders everywhere. To the medical staff and the residence staff who have been taking care of our familythank you doesnt say enough.
Recovering from an illness gives you a lot of time to reflect. When my husband was taken to Walter Reed as a precaution, I spent much of my time reflecting on my family. I also thought about the hundreds of thousands of people across our country who have been impacted by this illness that infects people with no discrimination. We are in unprecedented timesand with the election fast approaching, it has been easy to get caught up in so much negative energy.
It also cheered me to think of all the people I have met across our country and the worldand the goodness and compassion that exists if you seek it out. Our country has overcome many hardships and much adversity, and it is my hope COVID-19 will be another obstacle we will be able to tell future generations we overcameand learned from in the process.
I encourage everyone to continue to live the healthiest life they can. A balanced diet, fresh air, and vitamins really are vital to keep our bodies healthy. For your complete well-being, compassion and humility are just as important in keeping our minds strong. For me personally, the most impactful part of my recovery was the opportunity to reflect on many thingsfamily, friendships, my work, and staying true to who you are.
I am happy to report that I have tested negative and hope to resume my duties as soon as I can. Along with this good news, I want people to know that I understand just how fortunate my family is to have received the kind of care that we did. If you are sick, or if you have a loved one who is sickI am thinking of you and will be thinking of you every day. I pray for our country and I pray for everyone who is grappling with COVID-19 and any other illnesses or challenges.
Thank you to everyone who reached out, and offered well wishes and prayers for our family. You remain in ours as well.
94.6% of those ages 70-79 survive. ~82% of those 80+ survive.

Exactly right, one needs to acquire a mild infection of covid-19 to develop natural immunity.
By locking yourself in house you remain vulnerable.
So more infections are good news, if accompanied by reduced death rates, which is exactly what is happening in red states.
I’ll bet 90%+ of those infected also wear shoes.
Clearly shoes cause COVID-19.

I should have said ... his VERSION of Hillarys basket of deplorables comment. HRC wasnt even trying to be sarcastic or humorous. She meant it as stated. Graham probably meant what he said sarcastically and I hope that is believed when he gets attacked for saying it. The fact that it was on the radio even before the hearing was over today does not look good for Graham. We need him in the Senate.
She's 100% right! I would add to that regular exercise. If everyone ate a balanced diet and got plenty of exercise, fresh air, and sunshine, we'd all live a lot longer and our healthcare costs would absolutely crater. Most of what we spend on healthcare today can be traced right back to bad diets and no exercise.
The main reasons our country has been hardest hit are twofold:
We have a rebellious, social culture that is difficult to lock down, and...
We are generally obese and unhealthy as a people.
Fixing one would greatly improve our situation.
I know which one I would pick...
I've been on Vit D supplement for over a year. I have been traveling all over the western half of the country, not taking any particular precautions beyond what is mandated, and I'm fine. May be something to that.
Is this the first time a Presidential family has caught the flu?
Don’t Fear the Covid.
Beautiful! Of course, if Melania had been a Dem she would have been all over the news and on magazine covers. I’m so sick of the haters.
SARS-CoV-2 is as closely related to Influenza as human beings are to snails. And COVID-19 kills about 30 times more often than the flu does.
It’s the first time the First Family has caught this particular pathogen and those of us who care about them were very concerned, particularly for President Trump given his age.
all 3 networks led with Barron being positive for covid...not sure why Melania revealed this and being so dramatic...played right into the medias narrative.....annoying.
What a sweet and gracious First Lady!
I do believe that America is protected by God.
We MUST fulfill His wishes however. We have to pray. And be kind to others.
How in the world was she being dramatic?
Not following you, FRiend.
Thank you for this!
A heartfelt account from our lovely First Lady!
LOL! Yeah, that and sunlight and driving a car and going to the grocery store and anything else that makes sense. Anything that makes you go outside.
But you’re right. Shoes are the worst.
Thats not true. I had it, and it was no fun at all. In fact, it was tough. I can easily see how it could kill a sick older person, especially back in the early days before doctors learned how to treat it effectively. I still have some sequelae eight months later and am just getting my strength back.
I agree wholeheartedly.
